We recently enjoyed a wonderful opportunity to participate in a cultural and conservation learning experience hosted at CUE Haven for Marlborough Primary School. Along with an overnight stay at Te Aroha Pa marae, 130 Year 5-6 students learned about Aotearoa’s unique native plants and birds, discovering how we can all contribute to their protection.

Tris & Matu from The Forest Bridge Trust Team guided the students through an engaging session on the predators that pose the greatest threat to our flora and fauna. A lively playground game demonstrated the profound impact predators can have. The students were divided into three groups—kiwis, predators, and burrows. At Tris’s signal, the kiwis raced to their burrows, attempting to escape the pursuing predators. After a few rounds, it was evident how significantly the kiwi population was affected.
