Local Business Sponsorship To Support TFBT Predator Control
A big thumbs up from Cam, collecting our new ATV from Doug.
Doug Poland, owner and manager of Poland Motors has lived in the Te Hana area of Rodney for over 25 years, where he has raised his three sons.
Poland Motors is a family-owned and run business with a long history of service to the Rodney community. Originally opened in 1974 by Doug’s grandfather in Kaukapakapa, his father and uncle then opened a branch in Helensville, which makes Doug the third generation in running the family business, with the Wellsford branch opening in 1993.
Poland Motors sells and services a variety of all-terrain vehicles and mowers, covering the whole Rodney area down to Auckland’s North Shore. Customers are largely famers, but Doug is finding a growing number of lifestylers using his services.
Kevin says, “We have known Doug for almost 40 years in his capacity as motorbike mechanic and business owner. Doug has always been very good to work with and supportive of the local farming community by looking after their motorbikes and machinery in a very efficient and speedy way. When we realized that Cam and the TFBT predator control team would need a side-by-side all-terrain vehicle to be able to cover safely all the areas they would be working in, I approached a couple of local businesses to ask if anyone would be prepared to supply an ATV under a type of sponsorship package.Poland Motors answered very quickly and were very happy to offer the Trust a great deal. Doug offered to supply a Polaris side by side bike that was exactly what our team were keen on.”
When Doug got the request for help, he says, “Of course I know Kevin and Gill and their families, I remembered seeing them both on Country Calendar, so I had a look at the TFBT website. What TFBT is doing looks fantastic, and I was very keen to offer help. Kevin is such a genuine guy; you know that if he is involved it’s guaranteed to be a good thing. When I connected to TFBT staff, more names I know just kept popping up – really good people we know in the local area.”
Tracy Tristram, Executive Director of TFBT is delighted with the good news to support the work of the Trust, “We are really grateful to Doug and the team at Poland Motors. Their support means so much to our team, our work, and the flora and fauna we are working to protect.”
He’s called “Sam”. Can you guess why?
